In 1997 my best girlfriend sent me a beautiful potted flower arrangement. It was about 8 inches in diameter and had a palm type plant in it....an african violet and some ivey. I took care of it for a long time in the tiny basket it was in and then eventually had to seperate the plants and find their own pots for each of them. The ivey became a filler I used for my front porch urns and quickly grew so large it choked out everything I would place with it....it eventually got moved to its own very large pot on the front porch....I placed it on an iron chair on my porch and it would cascade over and touch the ground. I would get so many compliments on it and really and truly aside from watering and fertilizing about once a year I did very little to it. We moved and so after moving I split it and placed it around in some beds around my house and it is spreading and covering the ground. Once I get the new pine straw down on my beds and add some flowers I will post a pic.
My pride and joy is the african violet....it is beautiful! It loves the new under cabinet lighting I have in my kitchen and it blooms continuously! I took a pic to show it off as I am soo amazed that this plant that is supposedly hard to care for is so beautiful and so old (11 years old!) It makes me smile whenever I look at it and think of my good friend who gave it to me and every time she comes over she has to stand there and listen to me rave over it! It is the simple things that make me the happiest!
